Head of Vitus Bering, The

On the high seas a songwriter and presenter on a pirate radio station reports on the seafarer and adventurer Vitus Bering, discoverer of the famous Bering Straits. Using experimental texts by Bayer, the presenter speculates on the background to this early expedition. Turned on by pop music, coffee and cigars, the presenter himself takes on the form of Bayer’s fictional characters. (W. Germany, 1970. English subtitles. Black and white. 26 mins.) Plus Sonne Halt! (Sun Stop!), a masterful and deeply moving reconstruction of the last days of Kornard Bayer, whose personality is revealed to us by different characters from his literary works fighting over his soul.
Austria, 1962. English subtitles. Black and white. 26 mins.
