Grave Decisions

Director: Marcus H. Rosenmuller

Germany| 2006. Subtitled. Colour. Anamorphic. Dolby Digital Stereo. 105 min.

This year’s ‘Family Matinee’, which is suitable for older children and adults alike, is director Marcus H. Rosenmuller’s dark but hilarious comedy Grave Decisions, about a boy who takes everything he sees and hears at face value. You’re never too young to be a murderer, thinks 11-year-old Sebastian (Markus Krojer), who’s convinced that he killed his mother at the age of 0. The proof is on her gravestone — she died the day he was born! Though his father tries to reassure him, Sebastian is terrified by the thought of spending years in purgatory. Hoping to get time off for doing good deeds, he sets out to find a wife for his dad. Someone in Heaven must be listening, since Sebastian’s father and his very attractive teacher have fallen madly in love. The only problem is that she’s married. But since Sebastian has already killed his mother, killing a total stranger should be easy enough.
