FEAST YOUR EYES: WHEN HARRY MET SALLY…

Director: Rob Reiner

96 minutes, U.S.A., 1989, Colour, Blu-ray

We’re delighted to welcome Caroline Foran, Senior Editor with Entertainment.ie (and big When Harry Met Sally fan…) who will introduce this screening.

As the setting for When Harry Met Sally’s most memorable scene, Katz’s bustling Manhattan Delicatessen – where a willful Meg Ryan unabashedly brings her argument with Billy Crystal to a successful conclusion – makes for a perfect backdrop, and the eatery has been drawing fans of the film ever since, all eager to savour an ‘authentic’ New York dining experience. Plenty of the pair’s other key exchanges also take place over traditional diner-style food, the vast majority of which Ryan pedantically orders ‘on the side’.

Director Rob Reiner’s film – this month’s choice for Feast Your Eyes – features career-best performances from Crystal and Ryan both of whom are elevated by Nora Ephron’s Oscar-nominated script as well as a brilliant supporting cast led by an urbane Carrie Fisher who plays Sally’s exceptionally candid and resourceful best friend.

The screening will be followed by a meal inspired by the film in the IFI Café Bar (see menu below). Tickets €20 (free list suspended). Online booking is available at www.ifi.ie or call the IFI Box Office on 01 679 3477.
