FEAST YOUR EYES: THE TRIP

Director: Michael Winterbottom

107 minutes, U.K., 2010, Colour, Digibeta

Visiting ten restaurants across northern England over the course of a week, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon devour a campaign of mouthwatering dishes while scrutinizing each other’s impressions of Michael Caine in this intelligent and hysterically funny twist on the road movie.

Playing versions of themselves recognisable from Michael Winterbottom’s A Cock and Bull Story (2006), the pair engage in a continual scuffle of one-upmanship over mutton pudding, truffle ravioli and a wondrous amount of scallops.

Besides the sparring friendship between the two actors, the film also surveys the dramatic landscape they journey through, providing elegant shots of snow-capped mountains amid discussion of ancient battles, Romantic poets and taster menus.

This screening will include the short film Peach Salad by Aoife McElwain and Mark Duggan of Forkful TV (www.forkful.tv), and will be followed by a meal inspired by the film in the IFI Café Bar (tickets €20).
