Confident that preparing Thanksgiving dinner in her miniature apartment presents no significant challenges, April (Katie Holmes) invites her estranged family to New York to mark the occasion. While they set out from the suburbs, stopping along the way for bagels and Krispy Kreme doughnuts, April learns that her oven is on the blink and resorts to knocking on the doors of her assorted neighbours to ask for help. With an outstanding supporting cast including Oliver Platt and Patricia Clarkson – who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance as April’s cancer-suffering but nevertheless intractable mother – this is a warm and deeply savoury offering.
