Veteran director Sandor Sima’s gentle and totally absorbing film is set in the 1930s and ’50s and tells of Franciska, a young woman who falls in love with her Jewish employer. Though separated by the war, the couple are reunited in the new socialist Hungary and resume their unlikely relationship, creating a world of serenity despite the arrest of their friends by the secret police. The cast includes famous filmmakers Istvan Szab’ (Mephisto) and Jirî Menzel (Closely Observed Trains).
