THE SEARCHERS In one of the many films he made with John Ford, John Wayne doesn’t fail as Ethan Edwards, a Civil War veteran who sets out to find his niece, kidnapped by Chief Scar of the Comanche during a raid on his family home. Determined to get her back and to wreak revenge on any Comanche that gets in his way, Edwards’ search becomes an obsession particularly when the young woman (an almost silent Natalie Wood) he finds has assimilated within the tribe.
