During Summer vacation, teenager Okju and her nine-year-old brother Dongju move into the house of Youngmuk, the grandfather they hardly know. Their parents have separated and their father Byunggi, struggling to make ends meet, has no choice but to move with the children into his father’s house. Dongju adapts well to his new home, but Okju feels awkward, especially after they are joined by their aunt Mijung whose marriage is in trouble. Gradually though the five learn to live together…

Young Korean director Yoon Dan-Bi’s stellar first feature is a human and intimate depiction of three generations. Filled with delicate moments, the film plainly articulates each character’s emotions, ably skipping from humour to heartbreak all within one scene. The film gives us not just a view into modern Korean society but also a view of the family unit that is timeless.
