So elegantly tense and beautifully shot is this Norwegian threehander that it manages to breathe new life into a fairly tired setup: an ex-criminal’s determination to stay straight is sorely tested when a former colleague appears on the scene. to dredge up past misadventures and threaten the couple’s relationship. Dragon?ies is based on a story by Nicolaj Frobenius, best known for writing the original Insomnia: this is a similarly moody thriller that pays especially close attention to the atmospheres of a very speci?c and remote rural landscape. Frobenius and co-writer and director Marius Holst combine gentle homage to the noir classic Out of the Past with elements from Polanski’s Knife in the Water and Cul-de-sac.
