DARATT

Director: MAHAMAT-SALEH HAROUN

CHAD • 2007 • SUBTITLED • COLOUR • DOLBY STEREO • 96 MIN

Civil war has raged in Chad since 1965. In Mahamat-Saleh Haroun’s austere yet haunting Daratt we follow 16-year-old Atim (Ali Bacha Barkai) as he leaves his village to seek out the war criminal that killed his father. Atim is planning bloody revenge, but when he finds his target—another war victim with a pregnant wife—a strange relationship develops between them. Barkai gives a defiant performance as a boy abandoned by God and country. These screenings are made possible by the generous sponsorship of Irish Aid.
