Made for German TV, Egoyan’s most minor-key film so far is nevertheless among his most complex. Egoyan himself is a photographer who visits Armenia with his wife (Arsinee Khanjian), but returns alone and spends the next year scanning his videos of their visit and the calendar photographs he took there. At once highly analytical about desire, memory and the video image, and extremely comicoEgoyan casts himself in Woody Allen mode as he undertakes a half-hearted programme of dream dates.
