BLACKFISH

Director: Gabriela Cowperthwaite

USA, 2013, Documentary, 83min

This thought-provoking documentary exposes the truth about Orca whales being held in captivity for the benefit of a multi-billion dollar sea-park industry. It focuses on the story of killer whale Tilikum, who was once a star performer at Seaworld Orlando before a tragic incident in 2010 when he killed his trainer Dawn Brancheau during a live performance. Using shocking footage and emotional interviews, the film presents a convincing case against keeping these highly intelligent wild animals in captivity.

Paul Kiernan, Welfare Officer with the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) will attend this screening.
