Essential French drama based on childhood events from one of French cinema’s most important figures, Louis Malle. This classic film tells the tragic story of friendship and loss between two boys at a Catholic boarding school in Nazi-occupied France. Julien befriends Jean and the two precocious youths enjoy true camaraderie until Jean’s secret is revealed. A subtle, precisely observed tale of courage, cowardice, and tragic awakening.
