ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE

Director: Jonathan Levine

U.S.A.| 2007. COLOUR. ANAMORPHIC. DOLBY DIGITAL STEREO. 35MM. 90 MIN.

A film influenced as much by Heathers as by Halloween, this smart and highly successful ‘slasher’ flick centres on Mandy Lane (Amber Heard), the most attractive and most popular girl in her high school. Unfortunately for the guys, she’s also the most chaste. Tired of being put on a pedestal by her classmates, Mandy accepts an invitation to spend a wild weekend on a remote ranch – a journey which each of the males hopes will see him successfully enter the promised land. However, the trip turns out to be the prelude to a killing spree. Everyone is a suspect, whether it’s one of Mandy’s frustrated suitors, a jealous girlfriend, or the broodingly handsome ranch hand. Jacob Forman’s sharp script shows a good ear for the bitchy dialogue of high school cliques. Add effective scares and innovative kills, and Mandy Lane becomes far richer and funnier than so many other current lazy examples of the genre.
