A Breach in the Wall

2002. Sweden.98mins

Lars is a borderline-suicidal former mathematician who becomes disenchanted with modern life and takes a job as a substitute teacher in his small hometown. He regains his lust for life upon discovering that one of his pupils, Jonny, is a math genius. Meanwhile, Jonny’s girlfriend Claire, an activist and daughter of the local factory boss, falls for Lars. Karlsson weaves math, politics, love, and life’s unpredictable turns into a study in slow-burn feelings, where volumes of emotion are conveyed with simple silences.
