Debut director Tim Sullivan’s madcap remake of the infamous 1964 classic is silly, offensive, gory and over the top. Horror icon Robert Englund chews up the scenery as the one-eyed Mayor Buckman, who ensures the ghostly residents of Pleasant Valley get their sadistic fun at the expense of a gormless group of lost students out to enjoy the local ‘Guts and Glory’ jubilee celebrations. Englund’s partner in crime is Lin Shaye (Dead End), who shifts effortlessly from southern belle caricature to southern fried human cook.
