It’s Friday, which means it’s time for new movies at the IFI!
This week, we’ve got an all time classic from Woody Allen in the form of Manhattan, as well as the latest from acclaimed French director François Ozon, Frantz. Check out some of the reviews for these films, and come in to the IFI to make up your own mind!
FRANTZ
“A splendid cast work through the complications and stages of grief to provide a scathingly anti-nationalist warning from history.”
4/5 – Irish Times
“Frantz is rich with nuance and detail with director Francois Ozon juggling a lot of heavy themes – grief, forgiveness, patriotism – with a subtle touch.”
4/5 – Entertainment.ie
“Ozon is often at his best when working with women, and he has a fabulous talent in Paula Beer to bring his protagonist, Anna, to vivid life. She’s stunning in the role.”
4/5 – Guardian
MANHATTAN
“Nothing has changed in how compelling and addictively watchable this film is.”
5/5 – Guardian
“One of Woody’s most aesthetically gorgeous films as well as his classic love-hate letter to the city of his soul.”
5/5 – Empire
“And yet this is a very good movie. Woody Allen is … Woody, sublimely”
3.5/4 – Roger Ebert
