JDIFF: THE FIRST MOVIE

Director: MARK COUSINS

76 minutes| U.K.| 2009| Colour

Despite Iraqi children’s regular appearances in the media, they are, understandably, nearly always portrayed as being victims of war. Director Mark Cousins, who grew up during the troubles in Northern Ireland, felt there was more to the story and wondered if Iraqi children led imaginative lives.
He took a projector, some great films and three small cameras to distribute to Iraqi children and filmed as they made movies about war, love, a fish that goes to a magical place and a chicken looking for justice.

Mark Cousins will attend the screening.
