Director: FRANK BEYER

GERMANY • 1995 • SUBTITLED • COLOUR • DIGITAL VIDEO • 138 MIN

Highly regarded DEFA writer-director Frank Beyer made this 1995 TV film about the last year of the East German state. It tells of a family whose members are torn between the protest movement and the Stasi. Although a fiction, the film was inspired by real events and features many familiar places and incidents, including Nikolaikirche, the meeting place for the ‘Monday Demonstrations’, the peaceful protests which would eventually bring down the whole state apparatus.

The screening will be followed by a talk by DCU lecturer Thomas Coulson.
