WHAT’S IN A NAME?

Director: Alexandre de La Patellière, Matthieu Delaporte

109 minutes // France // 2012

In the tradition of Le Dîner de cons and Polanski’s Carnage, What’s in a Name? is an adaptation of a comic play to the cinema. When two couples meet for dinner, talk turns to possible names for the soon-to-arrive child of one of the pairs. The announcement of the chosen name leads to initial uproar, followed quickly by bickering, revelations and resentments, all of which provide moments of hilarity that will keep the audience engaged and amused throughout.

Keeping nearly the entire original cast of the play (Charles Berling being the exception) makes for a flawlessly performed film.

Director’s Note: A domestic hit in France, this is a very French and very funny comedy with expertly paced quirky dialogue delivered with great energy by the cast.

Showing as part of the 2012 IFI French Film Festival
