To conclude Between Heaven and Hell, our two-month celebration of the work of Ingmar Bergman, IFI is delighted to welcome Dr. Jan Holmberg, CEO of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation in Stockholm, for an illustrated IFI Talk where he will discuss the films in the context of Bergman’s personal life, exploring to what degree Bergman’s art imitates his life, and vice versa.

Dr. Jan Holmberg is CEO of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation. He earned his Ph.D. in 2000 at Stockholm University and has since worked as lecturer in cinema studies and head of film programming at the Swedish Film Institute, until he took his current position in 2010. The author of numerous articles and three books, of which the latest (2018) was on Ingmar Bergman as writer. He is a regular contributor to the largest Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter and is currently finishing a book on Bergman’s West German exile 1976–1982, tentatively titled ‘The Bergman-Meinhof Syndrome’.
