Dublin in the 1930s. Mary (Brenda Fricker) and her English husband George (Bob Hoskins) are trapped in a stale and childless marriage. The tedium of their lives is relieved when Mary develops an on-screen infatuation with Clark Gable when they visit their local cinema.
