WILD STRAWBERRIES: EVERYTHING MUST GO

Director: Dan Rush

97 minutes, U.S.A., 2010, Drama

Wild Strawberries is our bimonthly film club for the over 55s.

This intriguing small film that slipped under the radar of most cinemas around the country stars comic Will Ferrell, showing his much greater potential in this role of alcoholic Nick Halsey, who loses his wife and job after a relapse. When he comes home to find she has locked up the house and thrown all his worldly goods onto the lawn, he has to confront the state of his life. Help along this uneasy path arrives in the form of Kenny, a lonely kid who doesn’t see anything odd about Nick’s behaviour. Instead he motivates him to get his stuff ready for sale and teaches him baseball. New neighbour Samantha also offers a kind of friendship. It’s a bittersweet drama that is carried off by great performances, subtle humour and careful direction.

€3.85 incl regular tea/coffee before the screening.
