IFI SCHOOLS: SCHOOL OF ROCK

Director: Richard Linklater

USA/Germany • 2003 • 108 mins

As a character study, Jack Black playing substitute teacher Mr Finn is irresistible. Determined to shake up his class of elementary pupils by uncovering their love of rock music, he flies in the face of the school code of behaviour, laid down by strait-laced principal, Ms Mullins. Showing genuine affection for his motley crew of pupils, he coaches them into a rebel rock band for a competition, of course breaking a lot of rules along the way.
