SAUVAGE

Director: CAMILLE VIDAL-NAQUET

99 mins, France, 2018, Digital, Subtitled

This film was released on Friday 1st March 2019 and is no longer screening. .

22-year-old Léo (Félix Maritaud) is a rent boy on the streets of Strasbourg. He is by turns a hustler and a lonely boy lost, who craves intimate connections amidst his succession of anonymous clients. Léo is sick with unrequited love for one of the fraternal group of prostitutes he hangs with, who counsels him to find an older, financially secure man as a means of escape. Although struggling with health and drug problems, Léo is reluctant to sacrifice what he views as freedom for the comforts of being a kept man.

This bracing first feature by writer-director Camille Vidal-Naquet balances raw authenticity with moments of profound tenderness and compassion.

Sauvage is presented in association with GCN, Ireland’s national LGBTQ press.
