This sumptuous documentary pays homage to the life and ideas of Peter Rice, widely regarded as one of the most distinguished engineers of the late twentieth century. Without his innovations and collaborations with the leading architects of his time, some of the most recognisable buildings int he world would not have been realised. The film traces Rice's career from his Dundalk childhood to his work on the Sydney Opera House, the Pompidou Centre and the Lloyd’s Building, to his untimely death in 1992. Using 35mm time-lapse photography interwoven with reminiscences of colleagues, family and friends, Marcus Robinson celebrates Rice's extraordinary legacy, unfolding the story of one of Ireland's great minds; a man who pushed the boundaries of art and science to reach unimaginable heights but who has, until now, stood in the shadow of architectural icons.
