Val Barber (Aidan Gillen), a private investigator, is hired by a wealthy widow (Deirdre Donnelly) to find her missing granddaughter, Sara. The search gets murky as long-buried secrets – including Barber’s own – come to the surface, and new and old adversaries (including a no-nonsense Liam Carney) appear, determined to thwart his investigations at every turn. Barber is no one-dimensional Gumshoe. His romantic life is complex as he bounces between an exasperated ex-wife, a lusty former lover, and the mysterious mistress of one of his prime suspects but his love for his vulnerable teenage daughter is unqualified. As the plot thickens and the stakes are raised with no solution in sight Barber wonders has he bitten off more than he can chew. Fintan Connolly (Flick, Trouble with Sex) has created an enjoyable Dublin Noir with standout performances from Gillen and Carney. Notes by Sunniva O'Flynn
