Set in Sardinia, during the bombardment of World War II, Annetta is an Accabadora, a woman who helps people die with dignity, a practice existing in Sardinia until the 1950s. She searches for acceptance and love with a deep desire to change her destiny: living alone with death, a path written in stone by ancient traditions. Annetta agrees on her sister’s deathbed to abandon her niece, so she cannot be fated to become the next Accabadora. The film is a reverse coming of age story as Annetta finds love in the arms of a foreigner Albert where she finally finds intimacy in love and life. Notes courtesy of Screen Ireland
