In a Dublin where everyone seems to know everyone else, John (Cillian Murphy) hatches a mad plan to undo his foolish breakup with girlfriend Deirdre (Kelly MacDonald). Working with the embittered Mick (Brían F. O’Byrne), who has lost his job after a spectacular bus crash, and hardened criminal Lehiff (Colin Farrell), John tries to rob the bank which Deirdre’s new boyfriend Sam works at. Meanwhile John’s best friend Oscar (David Wilmot) starts a relationship with Sam’s ex-wife (Deirdre O’Kane), and a policeman (Colm Meaney) with delusions of grandeur and a grudge against Lehiff stars in a TV documentary. Frenetically paced, Intermission’s characters cross paths in a labyrinthine plot that weaves seemingly disparate events into a complete whole. Despite being a fast-talking mix of sex and crime, moments of genuine emotion break through the consistently riotous plot.
