Director Paddy Breathnach’s debut feature, Ailsa is a moody, atmospheric depiction of a man’s descent into obsession and madness. Myles (Brendan Coyle) is a tenant whose mental stability is shattered when he discovers his landlord dead after a tragic accident. Reeling, he fixates (?) upon new and beautiful tenant Campbell Rourke (Juliette Gruber) and slowly makes her the centre of his life. As his interest in her grows and he begins to pry into her affairs he neglects his old life, endangering not only his job but also his relationship with girlfriend Sara (Andrea Irvine). Breathnach and Coyle carefully manage this collapse into psychosis, avoiding melodrama or cliché as violence and depression take hold.
