An amnesiac clown finds himself exiled to the Ireland of the early 1960s, haunted by the events of World War Two. As the shadows of his past re-emerge, Gus must navigate the present dangers to find himself again and be finally free.

Stupid August is a modern silent film and historical fantasy which explores the dangers of burying collective histories and the lasting traumas of inhumanity. Funded under the Arts Council of Ireland's Authored Works Award.

The film has been designed from the start in two distinct versions, one with a recorded score for a conventional cinema screening, and one with the same score to be played live in a ciné-concert set up by a small group of musicians.
