Thirteen years old, Maeve (Ailish McCarthy) faces the difficulties of puberty in this coming of age drama. She and her three best friends joke about boys, kissing, and Maeve’s innocence; all of which makes the attention lavished upon her by local heartthrob Brian Power (Shane McDaid) all the more surprising. Caught between loyalties to her friends and family on one side and a world of adolescent adventures on the other, Maeve finds herself growing up fast and choosing the kind of woman she wants to be. Told exclusively from Maeve’s point of view, 32A was developed by director and writer Marian Quinn to redress a gender imbalance in Irish film about young people, focussing on the experiences of young girls in late 1970s Dublin and the importance of friendship and family even in times of hectic change. IFCO rating: 15A Awards: Best Director of Photography Award at the 6th Irish Film and Television Awards 2009.
