IFI LAUNCHES 22 & UNDER CARD: A NEW SCHEME OFFERING €5 CINEMA TICKETS FOR 16-22 YEAR-OLDS

February 28th 2023: The IFI today announces the launch of a brand new 22 & Under card, entitling 16-22 year-olds to €5 cinema tickets. Registration for the card is now open in-person at the IFI Box Office.

From the recent Wong Kar Wai season to the best of Irish film including Oscar-nominated An Cáilín Ciúin and The Banshees of Inisherin, the IFI 22 & Under card is a must for all young people living in Dublin. Upon registration, 16-22 year-olds will be required to show valid identification, and once the IFI 22 & Under card is issued, €5 cinema tickets will be available for purchase in-person or over the phone.

IFI Head of Education Alicia McGivern commented, ‘With our brand new discount card, if you’re aged 16-22 you can enjoy cheaper tickets to the finest Irish and international cinema showing at IFI. Just call into the IFI Box Office and sign-up.’

The introduction of the 22 & Under card aims to develop the IFI’s youth audience, make cultural cinema accessible, and introduce a new generation to arthouse, Irish and independent cinema.

On launching the scheme, IFI Director/ CEO Ross Keane said, ‘We are excited to launch this new discounted ticket offer for younger audiences, as we want to throw open our doors to the next generation of cinemagoers and filmmakers, and to inspire them with a strong slate of the finest independent film from Ireland and around the globe. We hope these discounted tickets will encourage young people to consume as much film as they want, and to take chances on films that they may not have previously considered. So whether they’re students, working or unwaged, once they are aged between 16 and 22, they can sign up straight away for the IFI 22 & Under card and begin exploring a whole new world of film.

The €5 tickets are redeemable across all IFI screenings aside from free-list suspended events (such as select festival events and screenings on 70mm film). Following the introduction of the card, IFI Education will host a call-out for a youth panel to shape the future of the 22 & Under scheme, and voice which programmes young audiences engage with the most.

IFI is principally funded by the Arts Council.
