Sam Neill goes full curmudgeon as Hector, living in the wilds with his kindly partner, Bella, who takes on tearaway, would-be gangsta, foster child Ricky.

When Ricky decides to run away, Bella manages to persuade him to hang on a while. Hector refuses to get involved but is forced to change his plans and he and Ricky find themselves on the run. Director Taika Waititi offers a story of unlikely friendship and humanity, set against the beautiful New Zealand landscape.
