2023 IFI FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL GUESTS

LEOS CARAX

Writer-director Leos Carax (1960, France) started as a film critic, and made his directorial debut Boy Meets Girl in 1984, presented at the Cannes Critic’s Week. Followed Mauvais Sang (Bad Blood, 1986), Les Amants du Pont Neuf (The Lovers on the Bridge, 1991) and Pola X (1999). In 2008, he participated at the anthology film Tokyo! which screened at Un Certain Regard in Cannes. Holy Motors was selected in Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. And in 2021, he won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival with Annette, starring Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver. The film also won three Lumière awards and five Césars, including the one for Best Director.

SOPHIE LETOURNEUR

Screenwriter and filmmaker Sophie Letourneur (1978, France) studied at the École Duperré and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. She went on to make experimental videos, installations, and documentaries. In 2004, she directed her first narrative short, La Tête dans le vide. Her debut feature, La Vie au ranch (IFI FFF 2010) was enthusiastically received by critics, and won the Audience Award and French Film Award at the Entrevues Film Festival in 2009.
We are delighted to welcome Sophie to the festival and to take part in a post-screening Q&A with her fifth feature, Voyages en Italie.

JO MANGAN
Jo Mangan is a director, cultural leader, and creative entrepreneur who has worked in the arts sector in senior management roles, as well as her continuing practice as an artist, programmer and creative consultant. She is Artistic Director of The Performance Corporation in Ireland which focuses on the creation of Theatre, Opera, and Virtual Reality work. Recent directing works include the Live/Virtual Reality piece, Emperor 101, presented as part of Dublin Theatre Festival 2021 and at SXSW in Austin Texas, and The Dead – an Opera at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre and screened at Kilkenny Arts Festival. She founded the SPACE Programme in 2009 – Ireland’s longest running multi-disciplinary international artists residency with a current focus on Arts and Immersive Technology.
