A six-week evening course on the cinema of Latin America
The past couple of decades have seen some dazzling work emerge from Latin America with directors such as Walter Salles, Lucrecia Martel, Alfonso Cuarón and others producing vital and stimulating stories, grounded in their locale but with a strong international appeal.
This six-week course will examine a selection of titles from this period of resurgence from several different Latin American countries.
Opening with an introduction by film critic, writer and programmer, Demetrios Matheou, each subsequent evening will include a screening and a follow-up presentation by a film specialist. They will examine the features shown and their place within the broader cinematic landscape of that particular country.
The films showing during the course are:
Tony Manero – Oct 7th
Strawberry and Chocolate – Oct 14th
City of God – Oct 21st
Whisky – Oct 28th
After Lucia – Nov 4th
La Antena – Nov 11th
Please note: order of screenings may vary slightly
