Ahlo is a young boy who lives in a South East Asian village in Laos. Believed to bring bad luck, he is blamed for a string of disasters including the loss of his family’s home. But he is determined to prove everyone wrong. After a harrowing start, Ahlo leads his family and his friend, the spirited nine-year-old Kia and her eccentric, James Brown-loving, Uncle Purple all the way to the Rocket Festival. There he builds a rocket to enter the most dangerous competition of the year in order to save his village.
