The Balkan Cowboy follows Croatian artist and photographer Dragana Jurišić as she searches for cult filmmaker Hari Džekson, who directed Westerns in the former Yugoslavia. Retracing his mythical story, she recreates one of his films using local people from both sides of the ethnic divide as actors. Returning to the home she fled, Jurišić follows the ghost of a country that has long since disappeared.
