Peter Bogdanovich’s first feature since 2001’s The Cat’s Meow is a joyous, uncynical screwball farce that makes you hanker the celebrated cinephile and director of The Last Picture Show (1971), What’s Up, Doc? (1972) and Paper Moon (1973) would make films more frequently. It’s a story told by actor Izzy (Imogen Poots), a former prostitute who recounts how she got her break in show business.

It’s a tale that involves vain, lecherous and overly generous film director Arnold (Owen Wilson); a Broadway play Arnold is involved in producing which features his wife (Kathryn Hahn), her celebrity co-star and ex-lover (Rhys Ifans) and the play’s buttoned up writer Joshua (Will Forte); and then there’s Joshua’s poisonous psychologist girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston), her obsessive patient (Austin Pendleton), and a stealthy private-eye (George Morfogen), who combine to cause chaos.

With a great ensemble cast, some notable cameos, and a script that has reverential references to old Hollywood glamour, She’s Funny That Way is a glorious confection, a true box of delights.
