SEACHTAIN NA GAEILGE: KINGS

Director: Tom Collins

85 minutes, Ireland, 2007, 35mm

The IFI Irish Film Archive is proud to preserve material made with the support of the BAI Sound and Vision Scheme. Together we celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge with a presentation of Kings, the story of a group of friends who emigrated to England from the Connemara Gaeltacht in the late ‘70s hoping for wealth and success but instead finding lives of loneliness and isolation.

Tom Collins’s tender and powerful film resonates not just with the Irish, but with many migrants who struggle to find a place to call home.

Scéal faoi dream cairde a chuaigh ar imirce go Sasana go mall sna seachtóidí, ag geallúint go dtiocfaidís abhaile go hÉirinn saibhir agus rathúil. Anois, cúig bhliana is scór ar aghaidh, níl ach duine amháin acu ag filleadh: Jackie. Fuaradh a chorp ar bhóthar iarainn, bascaithe ag traein. Nuair gur gá dá chairde glacadh leis gur féidir gur féinmharú a bhí ann agus ní timpiste, caithfidh siad deileáil leis an bhfírinne shearbh.
