Raspberry Reich

Director:

Germany| 2004. Colour. Dolby stereo SR. 90 mins.

Bad boy of cinema Bruce LaBruce is back. The Canadian indie hero’s latest offering is arguably less incendiary than his last one, Skin Flick. This time out the story is of a gay terrorist group (loosely based upon the Baader Meinhof gang of the 1970s) who determine to bring on the Revolution through boy-on-boy action. Fans will delight in hearing that LaBruce’s trademark mix of hardcore pornography, purposefully bad acting and unfathomable narrative side-steps is still the meat of The Raspberry Reich. Cum shots are followed by ideological statements writ large across the screen. My favourite: ‘heterosexuality is the opiate of the masses.’ Very funny, highly provocative, of questionable taste, with a cracking soundtrack.
