Irish Film Institute -ONLY YOU

Director: Harry Wootliff

119 mins, UK, 2018, Digital

This film was released on Friday 2nd August 2019 and is no longer screening.

Glasgow on New Year’s Eve. Office worker Elena (Laia Costa) and PhD student, and sometime DJ, Jake (Josh O’Connor), meet cute when they argue over a taxi home. Sparks fly and they spend the night together at her flat, and before long Jake moves in, at which point Elena finally confesses that, at 35, she is nine years older than his 26.

Her age is of no consequence to the thoroughly smitten Jake, however, and it only becomes an issue when the couple begin to try for a baby without success, eventually opting for a course of IVF treatments, a stressful procedure that begins to take a toll on their once blissful relationship. Buoyed along by the effortless charm of its two leads, Harry Wootliff’s extraordinary debut feature is an authentic look at modern love.
