ONCE WE WERE PUNKS

Director: Frank Shouldice

96 mins, Ireland, 2025, Digital

OPENS MAY 22ND

1980s Bailieboro, Co. Cavan, four school friends Justin, David, Noel and Paddy form a punk band and set their sights on world domination. They have fun but not a huge amount of talent and when the big breakthrough fails to materialise, they retire gracefully, allowing careers, adulthood, and emigration to intervene. But when they meet up at a funeral 25 years later they find themselves picking up where they left off.

Frank Shouldice (The Man Who Wanted to Fly) has found another bunch of witty, self-effacing Cavan men to beguile us as they reignite friendships and their musical youth.

Journalist and author Eamon Carr, co-founder and drummer with Horslips, will host the opening night Q&A on Friday 22nd with band members Justin Kelly, Dave Meagher, Paddy Glackin, and film director Frank Shouldice.
