2007 • COLOUR • 85 MINUTES • IRISH AND ENGLISH WITH SUB-TITLES

IN CELEBRATION OF THE IRISH LANGUAGE AND THE WEEK THAT’S IN IT, THE IRISH FILM ARCHIVE, IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE ST PATRICK’S FESTIVAL GAELSPRAOI, PRESENTS TOM COLLINS’ ‘KINGS’.

The story of a group of friends who emigrated to England in the late ’70s promising to return to Ireland rich and successful. Now 25 years on, only one of them is going home, Jackie – his body was found on the railway, crushed by a passing train. It is when his friends are forced to confront the possibility it was no accident, but suicide, that they must face up to the bitter chill of truth. Kings is a story of a lost generation, rich in humanity and emotion, and with a heartbreaking resonance (not just for the Irish) in today’s changing world. Sceal faoi dream cairde a chuaigh ar imirce go Sasana go mall sna seachtoidi, ag gealluint go dtiocfaidis abhaile go hEirinn saibhir agus rathuil. Anois, cuig bhliana is scor ar aghaidh, nil ach duine amhain acu ag filleadh: Jackie. Fuaradh a chorp ar bhothar iarainn, bascaithe ag traein. Nuair gur ga da chairde glacadh leis gur feidir gur feinmharu a bhi ann agus ni timpiste, caithfidh siad deileail leis an bhfirinne shearbh.
