Ireland on Sunday is our monthly showcase for new Irish film.

Energetic Monged takes a drug-fuelled ride through Dublin’s nightspots alongside Dave, an aspiring drug dealer; Ray, a failing club DJ; and socially awkward Bernard, the unwitting guinea pig for Dave’s latest pill consignment. Against a backdrop of narcotics and throbbing beats, the lads’ personal lives are complicated by sexual confusion, demanding partners, nagging parents and gangster death threats. Based on the award-winning play by Gary Duggan, with a script by Duggan and Barry Dignam, Monged avoids the usual clichés of drug-ridden narratives to present a film which is at times warm and funny and ultimately about friendship.
