IFI FAMILY FESTIVAL: ADVENTURES IN THE LAND OF ASHA

Director: Sophie Farkas Bolla

89 mins • Canada • 2023 • French with English subtitles

For young adventurers, or children who like learning new things, comes this charming tale from Canada about 9-year-old Jules who moves with his family to the countryside in 1940s northern Quebec. Kept at home because he has a rare skin condition, the boy spends his days exploring in the wilderness, where he meets a mysterious indigenous girl, Asha. Although they speak different languages, she introduces him to the wonders of the land and the traditions of her tribe, both of which are under threat from the settlers.

Also showing: Songbird, a short film about Yana, a young Ukrainian girl, struggling to assimilate into her new Irish school until she meets Chloe, a new classmate.  A Ukranian Irish co-production directed by Viko Nikci and co-written by children’s author Eoin Colfer. Produced by Samson Films.
