IFI@HOME EXCLUSIVE

This film follows the everyday daily life of a young Zanzibari woman, 21 year old Samira, who hopes to improve her lot by continuing her education, gaining a degree and becoming a primary teacher. Her plans are complicated by an expectation that she will marry soon and devote herself to motherhood. Samira represents not just her own reality but that of many young women who are keen to secure greater independence and more rewarding careers. Filmed intermittently over seven years, Dublin-based Nino Tropiano’s uplifting film celebrates the quiet victories of this ordinary but determined young woman.
