Charting the relationship between feminism and nationalism in Ireland, Anne Crilly’s controversial documentary interwove archival material and interviews with Margaret MacCurtain, Bernadette McAliskey, Sighle Humphries, Nell McCafferty, Pat Murphy and Mairead Farrell. Farrell was killed in Gibralter by the SAS soon after the film was completed and its broadcast on Channel 4 (part-funder of the film) was delayed by several years.

Mother Ireland was digitised as part of the Comisiún na Meán-funded ’Three Female Filmmakers’ project focussing on the work of Anne Crilly, Margo Harkin and Trish McAdam.

Anne Crilly, Margo Harkin and Trish McAdam will join a post-screening discussion hosted by Sara Greavu.
