I Love You Baby

Director: Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes

2001. Subtitles. Colour. Dolby digital stereo. 110 mins.

This irreverent romantic drama from directors Alfonso Albacete and David Menkes tells of the handsome and sexually ambiguous Marcos (Jorge Sanz), who travels from the country to Madrid and is swept off his feet by an aspiring actor, Daniel (Santiago Magill). An affair develops, but the pair don’t have a great deal in common: it’s Marcos’ first gay experience, and he’s more interested in football than modern dance (Daniel’s big obsession). Fate intervenes when Marcos is hit on the head by a mirror-ball at a disco and wakes up straight. He begins to date the fiery Marisol (Tiare Scanda), a woman who had a crush on him from the start. Daniel’s skills as an actor are put to the test as he tries to win back the love of his life. Inspired by Boy George (who makes a cameo appearance), Daniel dyes his hair, applies lipstick and frocks up, determined to once again seduce the confused Marcos.
