Based on the book by Pat Sheeran and Nina Witoszek, Pat Collins’s feature documentary offers fresh insight into Ireland’s funeral culture and its distinctive traditions involving banshees, wakes and keening. The film reflects on our relationship with mortality and on the hold that the dead have on the living in Ireland.

A welcome opportunity to view this early work from Pat Collins, a haunting, elliptical portrait of Irish funeral traditions, foreshadowing the exquisite wake scenes in his more recent That They May Face the Rising Son.
